About Barnstone Studios PHI Calipers

Once the student is familiar with the Root Rectangles, their armatures, dynamic symmetry and the underlying geometry being considered, calipers can be used as a “shorthand” for designing in a rectangle.  The points on the dividers are separated by the proportions of the PHI rectangle.  By placing marks where the points divide the rectangle, and then subsequent divisions, the artist can work quicker without building the entire armature on the work surface.

These Barnstone Calipers are hand constructed of red oak, and embossed with the Barnstone logo.
